gThumb 3.0.0 Released With GTK3 Support, Ubuntu PPA Available [Image Organizer]

gThumb is an image viewer and organizer that includes some basic image editing features like rotation, resizing and cropping, image enhancing and more, and alsso, it can export your images to websites such as Picasa Web, Facebook, Flickr, Photobucket or as a web album.

gThumb 3.0.0 has been released recently with GTK 3 support as well as some new features:

• High quality zoom for SVG images
• Added 'selections' as a more powerful way to select files. Selections aresimilar to catalogs but their content is lost after closing the application. Use Alt-n to add files to selection n, and Control-n to view selection n, for n in the 1..3 interval
• Added a tool to import the embedded metadata in the gThumb comment system
• Make the 'shrink wrap' command work for the video viewer as well
• Image viewer: implemented the checked transparency
• Hide/show the file properties pane
• Allow to change the position of the file properties in browser mode
• Many other minor new features and bug fixes

Install gThumb 3.0.0 in Ubuntu

As usual, the latest gThumb is available in our gThumb PPA for Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04. Add the PPA and install gThumb 3.0.0 using the commands below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gthumb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gthumb

gThumb 2.13.3, Gnome Subtitles 1.2, More [WebUpd8 PPA Updates]

Gnome Subtitles 1.2

Gnome Subtitles is an application that you can use to edit subtitles and among its main features are: support for most common text-based subtitle formats, video previewing, timing synchronization and more.

Changes in the latest Gnome Subtitles 1.2:

• Support for merging and splitting subtitle lines


• Allow to view character counts in the subtitle list and editing area


• Allow to apply a reaction delay when timing start/end on video playblack


• Video slow and fast motion options


• Automatically seek the video when subtitle times are changed


• Added support for the Fab Subtitler subtitle format


• Allow to insert a new subtitle at the current video position, applying a reaction delay if set

gThumb 2.13.3

gThumb is a photo manager for GNOME. It allows you to organize your photos, publish web-based albums or upload your pictures to popular websites such as Facebook, PicasaWeb and so on.

Changes in gThumb 2.13.3:

• Added ability to import photos from a folder


• Find duplicates: added ability to eliminate all the duplicates at once leaving only the newest or the oldest one.


• Show the current disk free space in the status bar.


• Resize image: added buttons to set to the original image size or the screen size

To install the latest gThumb 2.13.3 in Ubuntu 11.10 or 11.04 (sorry, it doesn't work in older Ubuntu versions due to dependency issues), using our gThumb PPA, use the commands below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gthumb

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install gthumb

gThumb is also available in the main WebUpd8 PPA (ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8).

The following packages have also been updated in the WebUpd8 PPA: DockBarX to version 0.46.1, Puddletag to 0.10.6.2 (no Oneiric version yet because it's freezing under 11.10 in my tests) and Audacious to version 3.0.1. Audacious is only available for Oneiric because it requires a newer FFMpeg version that what's available in Natty or older and using this version, some file formats wouldn't be played by Audacious. All these application got some minor changes / bug fixes, that's why there's no changelog.
