Ambiance And Radiance Colors Theme Pack Available In A PPA

7:16 PM

A quick update: Ambiance and Radiance Colors theme pack, which provides Ambiance and Radiance available in 8 different colors, is now available in a PPA for Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot and 12.04 Precise Pangolin users.

Using the PPA instead of manually installing the themes, you can stay up to date with newer versions without having to manually check for new updates. Add the PPA and install Ambiance and Radiance Colors GTK2/3 themes using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ambiance-colors radiance-colors

Once installed, use GNOME Tweak Tool or Ubuntu Tweak 0.6 to switch to any of the newly installed themes.

To install Ambiance and Radiance Colors for XFCE/LXDE, instead of the last command above, use:
sudo apt-get install ambiance-colors-lxxf radiance-colors-lxxf

The themes are of course also available on GNOME Look.

Download Ambiance And Radiance Themes In 8 Different Colors

1:43 AM

Ambiance & Radiance Colors is a theme pack that provides Ambiance and Radiance available in 8 different colors: red, orange (different from Ubuntu orange), yellow , green , blue , purple , graphite (grey) and pink.

The pack comes with GTK2/3 as well as Xfwm4 and Openbox themes and the GTK themes should work on Ubuntu 11.04 or newer (as well as other Linux distributions such as Fedora 15, etc.) while the XFCE themes should work on Ubuntu 10.10+.

Here are a few more screenshots:

There's no GNOME Shell theme yet unfortunately (if you want a complete GTK2/3/GNOME Shell Blue Ambiance theme, try Ambiance Blue), but the Ambiance & Radiance Colors developer is working on it.

To use the themes in Ubuntu 11.04+, download the archive (see download link below), extract it and copy all the Ambiance/Radiance color folders under  ~/.themes (or /usr/share/themes), then use GNOME Tweak Tool or Ubuntu Tweak 0.6 to apply one of the new themes.

Light Themes Evolved: Ambiance And Radiance With Many Improvements And Tweaks

7:19 PM

Light Themes Evolved initially started as an Ambiance theme modification for Nautilus Elementary. Later on, it became a full package that brings fixes and improvements to both Ambiance an and Radiance themes.

Light Themes Evolved - Ambiance and Radiance - include improvements like an uniform dark toolbar and titlebar, elementary applications tweaks, better scrollbars for applications that don't support overlay scrollbars and lots more. The themes were ported to GTK3 a while back, but they didn't include my favourite "fix": a dark sidebar for Nautilus (Ambiance). This fix is, however, finally available in the latest version.

Here are a few screenshots:

Install Light Themes Evolved in Ubuntu

Adding the Light Themes Evolved PPA and doing an upgrade will replace your current Ambiance and Radiance themes with Light Themes Evolved, however, the original themes are still available under the "Ambiance (default)" and "Radiance (default") names! The reason for this is so you don't need to install GNOME Tweak Tool to change the theme.

To add the PPA and install Light Themes Evolved, use the commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:victored/light-themes-evolved
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Then log out and log back in.

The above PPA is for Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot only. For older Ubuntu versions, see the Light Themes Evolved DeviantArt page.

Reverting the changes

If you want to go back to the original Ambiance/Radiance, install GNOME Tweak Tool and select "Ambiance (default)" or "Radiance (default)".

To revert the changes (remove Light Themes Evolved and install the original Ambiance/Radiance back), use the following commands:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:victored/light-themes-evolved

Report any bugs you may find (or improvment requests) @ Launchpad.

Thanks to Victor Martinez for the tip!

Ambiance And Radiance Themes Finally Ported To GTK3 [Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot Updates]

9:18 PM

The Ubuntu "Light Themes" Ambiance and Radiance have finally been ported to GTK3. The new version has just been uploaded to the Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot repositories and it uses a new GTK3 engine called "Unico" (available in the Universe repository), especially designed for the Ubuntu Light themes.

Here are some screenshots:

For comparison, here's Adwaita GTK3 theme and Ambiance GTK3 using The Widget Factory:

Update (the download links were updated too): Radiance GTK3 theme is now also available. Here's a screenshot:

Radiance GTK3

Important: this is the first release of Ambiance / Radiance GTK3 themes. There is still a lot of work to do until the final Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot release!

If you use Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot, you should get an update with the new Ambiance ported to GTK3 in a few minutes/hours (if you can't wait, download it from here).

For other Linux distributions, you can download Ambiance GTK2/3 from HERE - you'll also need Unico which you can get via bzr:
bzr branch lp:unico
And then compile Unico.

What do you think?
